policy, and preservation law. You can choose an emphasis in museum
studies, site administration, or archives. The program works closely
with the city and state in creating a rich learning environment with
plenty of opportunities for field experience. A wonderful field school
takes place every summer in Ste. Genevieve, MO, an enclave of an amazing
amount of surviving French Colonial buildings. The school is rather
small for a public university and has a feel more in keeping with
a small college. Class sizes are small and the professors are very
accessible and supportive. Historic Preservation

From what I have heard, this is a good hands on program.
They learn the basics of how to restore a building, as well
as some of the basics of preservation and conservation. For
anyone in Ohio, this might be a good choice if you want to
get your feet wet. I have met one person that went there,
who later went to Roger Williams and she enjoyed it quite a
bit.
Bucks County Community College

I worked with a guy whose wife taught in this program (or
something to that effect). From the word I have, which came
from the SHPO in PA, this is another good program, although
it is a bit more philosophy than the Belmont program.

My friend Rachel went to this program and she liked it quite
a bit. This is a bit more Art History and interior design
focused, which was great for her, because she likes
restoring old furniture. I have also talked with Dr. Muldrow
and he seems like a great guy. I have heard different things
about the CofC school itself. The program is not that old,
but should be interesting.

Mary Washington College
The program is a bit more focused on public
history sorts of programs (archives, museums, etc.) than
Roger Williams. I know they do work with folklore and
vernacular architecture, two of my new interests. It is
vying with RWU for oldest program status. I have heard a
good deal of people that enjoyed the program.
Roger Williams University
Bristol, RI 02809
Roger Williams was my alma mater and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Kevin
Jordan is (was) running the ship - but I think its down to Philip Marshall (2009). It is a bit more focused on
hands on and planning issues. They have great professors and a great
student body. Its pricey, but its within a school of architecture which
sets it apart. They recently went through some changes, which I dont
know much about though. They are also affiliated with the school of
art. If you are a historian, this may be of less interest than Mary
Washington, but if you are more architecturally focused, this might
be for you.

I met the director of this program once, which is about all I know
about the program. I have heard ok things about it, but nothing too
concrete. Let me know if you heard good things.

This school is brand new with its HP program. I haven't a
clue about it. In fact its NCPE membership is pending, so
give them or NCPE a call first to find out more.
